A United Nations meeting record says that on 12 October 2026 the General Assembly adopted the United Nations Declaration on Sea Level Rise, document A/81/L.3, by consensus. That record says the text commits the international community to speed adaptation to rising seas, to legal certainty for maritime borders, and to continuity of the state for nations threatened with disappearance.

The Maldives, speaking for 30 small island developing states, stressed financing. Palau, for the Pacific Islands Forum, recalled continuity of state sovereignty.

On the same day the Assembly adopted the pandemic declaration by a recorded vote. The sea-level text passed by consensus.
