NIST has released a draft revision of Special Publication 800-185, SHA-3 Derived Functions: cSHAKE, KMAC, TupleHash, and ParallelHash. The notice is dated October 8, 2026, and comments are open through December 7, 2026.

Revision 1 introduces streaming interfaces for extendable-output function computations. The notice says those interfaces allow applications to process input and request output incrementally, without knowing the total input length or the total output length in advance.

The release lists the Cryptographic Technology Group in the Computer Security Division of NIST's Information Technology Laboratory. It directs readers to the publication details for anything beyond that description. The notice does not include the text of the draft.
