At least 30 civilians were killed overnight on Thursday in Beni Territory, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to local sources cited by the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, in a UN News roundup published 6 November 2026.

Local authorities attributed the attack to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an extremist rebel group, according to news reports. Homes were burned and a health center was destroyed, killing several patients.

The violence has also disrupted the Ebola response. People who had been in contact with Ebola patients reportedly fled an observation center. Response teams had to suspend operations, which makes it harder to trace infections and contain the outbreak. Authorities have reported Authorities have reported more than 10,700 confirmed cases and over 5,200 deaths in the outbreak, UN News said on 6 November 2026. A WHO note on the same page says that nearly six months into the Bundibugyo outbreak more than 10,500 people have been infected.

The UN called on all parties to protect civilians, respect international humanitarian law and ensure safe, unhindered access for humanitarian and health workers. It warned that continued violence is costing lives and undermining efforts to contain the outbreak.

Asked about burial practices during the outbreak, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters in New York that they were being addressed through community outreach. He said disinformation about the work of frontline health workers had led to attacks on staff. He also praised the courage of the workers, "most of whom are Congolese", who continue to fight the disease and save lives amid fighting between armed groups that has roiled the region for decades.

The UN News roundup does not say how many patients died in the health center or when the suspended response teams might resume work.
